Observatory Golf Club, at 5 Steyn Street, Observatory, is the oldest golf club in Johannesburg still playing on its original grounds: golf began there on a 9-hole course in 1912, the club was formally established in 1914, and the course has had 18 holes since 1922.
The par-72 parkland layout is short by modern standards but has narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens, and the club also has a real-grass driving range, an indoor golf simulator, a pro shop with club repairs, a halfway house, a bar and a function room.
The club, driving range and pro shop are open daily from 06:00 to 18:00.
The halfway house trades Monday to Friday 07:00–16:00 and weekends 06:00–16:00, and the bar is open Monday to Thursday 10:00–19:00 and Friday to Sunday 10:00–22:00.
